I hope your teens first several weeks of school have been great for them and for you!
Despite some weather, we had a great soft opening and we continue to grow in excitement about all of the things we will be able to accomplish in this new facility.
Here are a few calendar updates and then some request for involvement during the fall months.
-September 22 – We will begin Wednesday Night Bible Class (we are actually still working on a start time…currently looking at 6:00 p.m.) that will be a time of worship and class led by Seth Madaris.
-September 26 – We will begin our GSM Life Groups at the building (more details and request below on this) on Sunday nights.
-We are looking to plan a fun Halloween hang out for our teens. If you are interested in helping plan and facilitate this, please let me know ASAP so we can work on setting a date and getting plans going. We can use the building for this!
-October 22-24 – GSM Fall Retreat at Camp Wiregrass in Chancellor, Alabama. In keeping with our regular Fall Retreat, this will be a time of rest and relaxation! If you are interested in helping with this event, please let me know ASAP. We WILL need a couple of cooks, as we are providing our own meals (we will have an industrial kitchen). So, if you are interested in chaperoning/driving/cooking please contact me. For our Fall Retreat, we like to bring a lot of Mentors for our teens to engage with! Theme TBD.
October 30 – Gateway Fall Festival/Trunk or Treat! We will be helping plan, implementing and staffing this event with Liz!
-We will have our regularly schedule Sunday AM/Wednesday PM and Sunday Night Life groups. We will let you know of any other local events we will be doing.
-We will be having our Christmas Party, so if you are interested in planning that event, please let me know.
-We plan on doing some special focused service during this month as well, including Christmas Caroling, hosting a Christmas meal for Foster families and more. Stay tuned for details.
– We will not be doing REFLECT this year.
-Rock the Universe Family Trip – January 28-30 – For all GCM and GSM families interested. These dates are set but no other details are available at this time. Once tickets are available, we will let you now. You will be in in charge of your own housing.
LIFE GROUP HELP
Now, as we go forward into the fall, we will really want to continue to build on our culture of family involvement and leadership. We are asking that parents lead the GSM Small Group, in a rotation. You will have full access to the building and I will continue to help facilitate any and all logistics (meals, snacks, communication) but I would love for us to have a good rotation of parental leadership as it pertains to worship/devotionals and fun. If you are interested or willing at all to be on a rotation to lead, please let me know ASAP so we can begin to plan that.
Also, I know many of our teens are driving now, and many of you are involved in other life groups, but there is the possibility of a Teen parent Life Group meeting in the building as well, adjacent to the Teen Group. If this is something of interested to you, let me know and we can begin planning and working on that as well.
Gateway is currently still involved in a great HOMELESS MINISTRY and WITHOUT WALLS Ministry that takes us into various areas of service. I ask that you always see these ministries as intrinsic to Gateway as a whole, not as as separate ministry from the teens. Often we talk about wanting our teens to “do service” and we completely ignore many of the great service based ministries we already have working that you and your entire family can easily plug into. In addition, we will be working on several other great service based ministry things that your families can get involved in, so always be listening out to that with ears that hear beyond just “youth ministry events”. This is part of how we can make sure we don’t compartmentalize our church into various silos and we can create a culture of true intergenerational life together.
If anything above jumps out to you to get involved, let me know so we can start planning! Thanks!
